I have a hood double line system which I need to replace. Would people suggest I buy and instal a single line system rather than replace the double line system. thanks

Why replace it?

Ken: Why would you want to replace it unless there is something wrong with what you have? I think that you can just retro-fit the double line system with a single line. If you decide to look at a NEW furler, take a look at the HOW store (Spin-tec). They now have a new furler that looks slick. I am looking at getting one for next season.

Reefing vs. furling

The problem with the Hood LD system is that it is rated only for furling the jib, while many people want to be able to reef the jib. Hood sells an "upgrade" that replaces the LD drum with a single line drum. This is capable of reefing as well as furling. You can still use the existing foil and halyard swivel, so it is less expensive than buying a whole new unit. There's lots of discussion of this in the archives. I've been considering getting the upgrade, but the old LD system meets my sailing needs so far.

Happy with my single line

I've got a single line jib furl on my T-30 and LOVE it! Even while single handing the jib furls in in seconds!
