Has anyone tried John Sylvesters method of securing the mast while raising it? See http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=73176871915&fno=17 I'm just wondering what was used to secure the cables to the mast? I'm figuring on using stainless steel eyepads, Should they be drilled and tapped into the mast or stainless steel rivets?

Nope

I havnt yet Its not to bad once you get used to it. I attach to jib hallard to the front to help pull it up or i have someone pull and one push! although mine is in its dock most the time! Good luck!

Bolt

Run a bolt through the mast for your stays, however do NOT make it tight on the mast. you dont want to compress your mast, just securely fix both supports to it. Side note - your bow pulpit looks much nicer than mine. Thats what happens when I try to dock in a small craft advisory : (

bolt thru' the mast

Will a bolt or actually two (thru' the pad eyes and mast) interfere with the halyards or wiring? From the pictures of the original installation the connection is above the jib halyard exit plate. Thanks, John

Mast raising

I now own John's 23 having baught it from him in April. I have only used his system once since I can leave the mast up. But it works great. I would have to check since I have not noticed how he attached the pad eyes. But there is not much load on the mast when raising it so you should be safe in using ss rivits. If you want, I can check the attachment on Friday when I get down to the boat. Let me know if you have any other questions and I can check out the boat. Brian

check boat

Thanks, I would appreciate it if you would check the mast and see how he mounted them. And just for information, what size cable did he use. Thanks, John

Mast raising

The eyes were screwed in with SS screws. Forgot to check cable but I know it can't be more than 1/8". Good luck.
