Single Hand Rig 222

My 222 is stock and I would like to upgrade it and rig it right for single hand sailing for my Dad. I am afraid to drill holes in the boat lol. Right now all we have for the jib are dock cleats on the top of the cabin and 2 winches on top of the cabin. I think they need to be moved back like the Catlalina 22 has them behind the seats about 3' from the back of the boat. I would also like to add a way to lower the main sail from the back of the boat, without having to run up to the mast to uncleat it. I think the jib is stock also, I would like to upgrade that also if someone can recommend a roller furleer that work best. Thanks

I have an 1984 Oday 222 ans single hans it all the time the thongs that i have found tp ne the most useful are the roller furling with the sheets run all the way back to the cockpit. I mounted a second set of winches and tracks. Also as noted above i have a mast plate on the bottom of the mast foe turning blocks. You can get thw mast plate from D & R Marine in Onsett, Ma. I currently run my boom vang, reef lines and am in the process of running my maine halyard back.
I have the log CDI furler and jave.been very happy with it. It is simple to use and set up.

If you would like pictures or further information ler me know.

I 've run the jib and main hailards back to the to of the cabin thru rope clutches just in front of winch. I have also a jib down haul and have run it back on the port side. Works great and jib (stock) can easly be dropped on deck with little trouble. W/ a snug jib sheet and snug down haul everything stays put. Only rarely is there a conflict w/ winch use then its simple to solve. Ive removed the furler and dont miss it on this boat. I have also put in a travler about a foot and a half behind cabin run between seats. Its adjustable w/ ropes and made a huge diff. in sail control. Yes it takes some room from the c pit but totally acceptable and after a couple days its not noticable.

I single hand my 192 all the time, and the Wave Front Marine Tiller Clutch is my best friend. Installed on all my boats except the Force 5. I frequently set the Tiller Clutch with reasonable sail balance, and do all kinds of stupid stuff like go below and make sandwiches, run rigging for my asym, go forward and do my best DiCaprio: "I'm the king of the world!" www.wavefrontmarine.com

Oh, and by the way, one of my boats came with a Davie Marine Tiller Tamer. I HATED that thing. It relies on a twist knob to set friction on the control line. It was FAR too fiddly for me, either too much friction/hard to tack, or not enough. I LOVE the Tiller Clutch, it's either on or off. And even when it's on, you can nudge it to adjust it, or pull slightly up on the lever to move it more freely, without completely disengaging it. Truly a wonderful piece of equipment. And I've spoken with the inventor and told him as much :D

My 222 had the halyards run back to clutches by a previous owner, but I upgraded the blocks when I bought new lines and also added a topping lift and cam cleat. In the first picture the white line w/ blue flecks is the topping lift, blue line is main halyard, red is jib halyard, and red w/ white flecks is jib sheet.
