Hi Peter -

I built the Eastport Pram last year and would like to set it up for sailing. I built in the centerboard box, so I just need to route it out and finish the edges. I also have the plans for the centerboard, rudder, and step from CLC. However, I don't really care for their gaff rig design. I noticed that you built a triangle rig for your boat. Would you be willing to share some of your insight, design, etc? What did you use for the spar and what size did you make it? Can you get me some rough sail dimensions? Did you make any changes to the CLC rudder or centerboard design or mounting? You wouldn't happen to have a parts list?

If it's easier, you could email me off-forum at j(dot)hunter9999(atsign)yahoo(dot)com.

Thanks,

Jack

Hello Jack,
I used a Sabot rig as it is a similar sized dinghy.

What I'll do is measure up my spars, and dig out my sail build sheet and write up the info.

I used the dagger board from the plans, and also the rudder (tilt-up version). I wasn't impressed with the mast step design. I feel the upper support should be at gunwale level, but I followed the plans anyway and it works just fine the way they designed it. On my fabric-covered dinghy I installed, what I feel, is a better mast support.

The mast is 2 piece aluminum tubing, with a section of smaller tubing to join the 2 pieces. As it was a bit of a loose joint I wrapped the inner piece of tubing with electricians tape, enough to get a snug fit. The boom is also aluminum tubing with a wooden jaw at the mast end.

The sail has a sleeve along the luff that slips over the mast, and a loose foot. For a traveller I use a piece of 1/4" line stretched from one side of the transom to the other. ... blah blah blah ... reading over this I see a need for pictures! It's hard to convey in words!

I'll get a bit of an article up and post it on my blog. Will let you know when it's done.
Cheers,
Peter

Thanks, Peter! I'll take a look at the URL and get started on the dagger board, rudder and tiller. Let me know if you get some notes and photos up.
