SimRad WP30 Autopilot

For a friend: The boat has a Simrad WP30 unit and the electronics apparently work but it will not turn the wheel. What my question is this: When you take off the wheel cover inside is the belt and a circular piece of plastic that is not a complete circle which when rebuilding require you to be a surgeon with three hands(quoted from old threads).
My question: Is that plastic circle piece supposed to be cemented to the outer wheel? I looks like there was glue that has dried and the pieces have separated.
The picture is the split piece next to the outer wheel and looking closely the residue can be seen.

If not connected, how does the belt turn the outer wheel when the unit is engaged?

Ok. You have a V-Belt guide and a V-Belt. You might be able to glue them. Worth an attempt. Not sure what to use. Perhaps contact cement. The issue with glue is that both the guide and the belt will be pulling against the glue. This looks to me to be a failure point, unless you can somehow chemically bond the two butt ends together.

Yes, that plastic circle piece, the belt guide, (item 1 in the attachment) is supposed to be glued to the outer wheel, the drive ring (item 3 in the attachment).

I have used a product called E600 successfully to reattach the belt guide to the drive ring.

The two ends should fit very snuggly together. I have not needed to "chemically bond..." them.

While you have it apart you should install a new belt.

Richard19068 I believe you meant "E6000", not E600. Good stuff.

The drive ring assembly drawing looks like my work. M5 screws and washers, M4 nuts. They should be tight enough without Loctite. :cool:
I'm Joking, use Loctite with the correct size fasteners.
