I notice some recent comments swearing by Simrad Wheelpilots. Right now, I'm swearing AT mine! Easy to install it certainly is - but it stolidly refuses to calibrate. I've done so many circles I'm dizzy! Is my binnacle compass the problem? Appreciate any help from Simrad/Navico WP30/WP10 owners

Similar Problm

There was a thread about that problem previously. Some said to try a tighter circle. I did try that with no luck but I did notice that though calibration never was accomplished (via an ack from the unit after the attempt) the unit did appear to calibrate - by that I mean it seems to work ok, specifically the autotack prior to calibration attempt did a 180 and after did about 110 or so. If your still under warantee you can call Simrad up and query them about this problem and possible get a factory fix or replacement - mine is past warantee so I'll just live with it. Aside from the unit not calibrating. does it seem to work ok? R. Young Hunter 37 "Destiny"

Response to "Destiny"

Thanks for the feedback. Autotack is still inclined to do the 180, and in general course holding seems coarser than advertised; i.e., the 1 degree 'tweak' always seems to become a 10 degree swing. And a strong gust can provoke bizarre behaviour. At present, I have no faith in it, but hope lives on!

Simrad WP30 Calibration

Same problem here... big circles, tight circles, etc. No calibration, but it seems to work fine. I played with the sensitivity adjustments, set the number of wheel turns and after about 50nm under autopilot, it seems to work fine (including autotack). Russ
