I am purchasing a tiller pilot for my 26ft. Capri. The Simrad base model (TP10) would work, BUT the next model comes with a wired remote (TP22). Do you think for $170 extra, the wired remote is worth it on a boat this size?... Owners of the TP22, how long is the remote wire and has it come in handy?...would you buy it again?

Having the remote is well worth the extra. I had a raymarine st1000 on a 30ft with remote and really good but a friend has a tp32 on a 26 ft beneteau and its much better than the st1000. You can have a much faster response time which can be usefull if the weather gets up. The remote allows you to stay in the cabin and control the direction from the chartable. The remote lead is about 20 feet long. It can also be controlled from a chartplotter to go direct to a waypoint using the nmea input. The simrad is also much more waterproof than the Raymarine.

I love my Simrad TP10 but I wish I went for the TP20 because of the wired remote. It would be great to be able to control the boat from the topsides or even bow pulpit when single handing. The NMEA capability is also something I wish I had now. I will pick a TP20 up this season and keep my TP10 as a reserve. Just shows, I'd pay almost twice

Windride, bet you wish you could listen in on the conversation...well honey...(um...clear my throat), we will actually "save money" by going with the better model...Thanks for the real owner viewpoint!
