Our Simrad radar began working intermittently early this summer. My boat is 2014 OC 45.. It stopped working altogether in July everything was checked. My dealer hooked up another scanner and cable and all worked He took apart the radome and found 2 inches of water in the unit. The dome had never been touched. He said the seal was intact. He thinks it may have been due to a driving rain. We sail on Lake Michigan out of South Haven. We have had some severe storms this year. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm probably going to have to get a new scanner and cable. Kind of pricey!

Not exactly. I had a Raymarine scanner that went bad many years ago, It turned out that the high pressure jet stream the boat washer used to direct water right at the gasket and lip is what did it in. I'm sure the gasket was tired by that time and the unregulated high pressure at the dock produced a mighty stream. Anyhow, I replaced the entire unit since the cost of the scanner alone was similar and the newer one was superior. BTW, I now only permit garden sprayers for nozzles; saves damage from good intentions

There is a rather obvious drain hole in the bottom of the radome. Important that the installer understand this and properly mount the dome.
