Would appreciate some advice as to whether a Simrad broadband radar would work with another display/chartplotter such as a Raymarine c-80.

Thanks

No. You'd have to do some electrical engineering to make it work, and you wouldn't get any factory support.

Simrad Broadband 3G spec claims as below:-
"SimNet or NMEA 0183 with cable kit into display".
To me this means the Raymarine should be capable of presenting the radar overlay provided one goes into the NMEA port on the Raymarine set.
I suggest you ask both Raymarine and Simrad for their advice. I have always found them both helpful.

Perhaps Sailfast1 would enlighten us further as to what engineering is necessary to make it work?

I have a BR24 radar and thought simnet was proprietary... wasn't aware it supported NMEA 0183 on the output until I saw your reference. I looked it up and found that radar data type is supported by NMEA. see link

It might work, but strictly speaking NMEA 0183 and Ethernet are mutually exlusive so neither company is sticking to the standard and there might be differences in the implementations. If it doesn't, you're on your own. Neither company will provide anything more than the available documentation and if things stop working you won't be able to send both units in together and have them troubleshoot.

Thanks Guys. I got through to Simrad and was told that the BB radar was not compatible with a Raymarine display/chartplotter.
