2007 Hunter 31 with a Sprint Atlantic Gipsy/Drum model 457. The unit works fine under power both up and down. When I loosen the clutch (center winch hole) the gypsy will not turn much less "run out". I have the original manual but it is rather vague. Is there a pall or locking device that I need to release or is something corroded? Also - what is the drum for? It does not turn when the gypsy moves up or down. Any suggestions or warnings on disassembly the above deck parts? Thanks.

Adjust

That center winch hole is for adjusting the clutch in the windless, turn it to tighten it and drum should be turning with windless,I think clock wise makes it tight and counter to take it off.

Grease

You need to take off the Gypsy and get grease into the bearing and shaft
to keep from rusting and freezing the shaft.
I do mine every other year or so.

Thank you. The manual from Don is much more detailed that the one that is with the boat. From what I see on the exploded parts diagram all I need for tools to access the "above deck" parts is a winch handle and screw driver. Is that correct?
