It worked!!! Took my Dremel to the bearing and was ultimately able to get it all out of there. I did nick the race a couple of times as well. How perfect does it need to be to function properly? The tiny bit of damage is so minimal I can't imagine it would be an issue when I see how the bearing is designed but I'm new to this so I figure I'll ask ;)
Sg, Awesome!!! It did not effect mine at all. Has been working quite nicely since I replaced the bearing. As a matter of fact I opened it up a week or so ago (it has been a year since it was repaired) and it looks great!

Thanks Nodak7. The orange grinding wheels for Dremel? I would love to know what model number your friend's replacement was. When I called Lewmar they suggested the V1 but it has a smaller footprint and a different wiring schematic. Three posts on the motor rather than 2.
The V1,2 &3 are all the same physical size. The V3 has the most power so that is what I went with for my 55# anchor. Yes the wiring is different but that is not an issue. Just wire it as recommended. No wire changes needed to the batteries.

Just take it apart and lubricate and clean it annually [...]
I finally got around to servicing my Sprint Atlantic model of this windlass. I couldn't move the gipsy cone or the gipsy itself due to minor corrosion on the bores of those parts. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it and came back the next day with a three-legged puller and I was able to coax it to move and, finally, come off. I doubt that it has ever been apart before, certainly not recently.

The seal below the gipsy cone is in OK condition but starting to get stiff and should be replaced. The bearing and the snap ring are in excellent condition. I would like to take it apart further for more complet inspection so I'm wondering if the mainshaft (item 93 or 95 on the diagram) should just pull out hand hand force (after removing the internal snap ring, item 20) or should I expect to have to rig up a puller to get it out. I depends, I guess, on the closeness of the fit between the bearing and its seat in the baseplate as well as the fit of the mainshaft in the driving gear below. Any thoughts on this?

Nodak7, I got some parts from SL Spares in Scotland. Question, should there be a seal between the gearbox and the motor do you know? In between the gearbox and the motor adapter plate. It's been so long since I took the whole thing apart that I can't remember.

Sgr,
I do not know. The gearbox and motor are a single unit and I did not disassemble them.
