Was having occasional teipping issues woth the windlass breaker, then completely non responsive. Investigation yielded no prob with breaker, foot switches or controller Traced to motor. Took off and apart and it looked like a trailer park after a tornado.
Simpson Lawrence windlasses are obsolete. Someone helped me ID it as the Anchorman

version. The recc replacements are for the sprints and the pro series and the part that goes into the gear box is very Different. I think I have to take the remains to a motor machine shop-but would welcome opinions. I anchor a lot. I can still haul up100’of chain and a 25# anchor at 59, but I would prefer not to. I have emailed SLspares in UK to see if they have a motor or an idea. Right now I’m thinking this is a machine shop job or a new windlass which I cannot swing right now. Thanks

If UK Spares doesn't have a replacement motor, I think you are SOL. Looking at that motor, I don't think it is rebuildable. I could be wrong, its worth an ask.

Bad news. I am pretty sure that a machine shop can't help with that particular motor. Best bet would be to attempt to source a matching motor .. Simpson Lawrence did not make that motor, they sourced it from somewhere. The trick is to find who they sourced it from. The 1.2 KW power rating is a start.. Measure outer diameter and length of the case and go on a hunt. It looks kinda like an automobile starter motor and may have been sourced from the UK based on their manufacturing location. I hope you can find a fit! Good luck.

The early S-L windlass' used a French manufactured motor by Leroy Somer. It was junk and many of us had brush failures. After Lewmar bought S-L, they switched motors. I dont known the latest source. A used motor would get you going, but the unknown is for how long.

Hi @Velorosa. With a date of 30/99 on the motor, my guess is the motor is about 27 years old. I would appear that it experienced a full service life on your new-to-you boat.

While sailing the waters of the Sound, sometimes solo, I would be looking for a new strong windlass. I chose a Lewmar V3 for its specifications. It was easy to install and has served me well, retrieving the 100ft of chain and 35lb anchor I use in the sometimes deep anchorages of the Salish Sea. I have found that a windlass is a safety tool for a solo sailor in the waters of the Pacific Northwest.
