I left in the dark this morning in hopes to make Beaufort before the rain. Travel on the waterway in the dark with the unlit pile markers is not for the faint of heart, even just for half an hour before dawn. I probably won't do that again.

Here's something you don't see dead ahead very many places on the waterway:

Running through Skull Creek, I saw a cruiser with even simpler taste in boats than myself.

It does have one thing my boat doesn't, a dodger:)

I was surprised to discover, when cropping the photo, that this boat is from Maine! I would love to know its story and if it came all the way down on its own bottom. If anyone recognizes the boat, please let me know.

Rain looked imminent when I got the entrance to the Beaufort River and a quite creek suddenly seemed like a nicer option for Christmas than the waterfront. I ran up Cowen Creek and then into Distant Island Creek where I was greeted by several dolphins and lots of birds. Beautiful spot.

The rain didn't start as it turns out but I'm glad to be here. The rain just started and I'm settling in for the holiday. I hope yours is as merry as mine will be peaceful.

Anchored in that creek last year when headed south, at the bend to port just upstream from some nice residences with large trawlers and sport fishers at their docks. Holding was good and we had good shelter from a frontal thunderstorm that evening.
