I was just finishing up getting Kinship ready for the winter, when I noticed that the compass card is sitting cockeyed, and the bubble at the top of the globe seems bigger than when I hauled the boat a couple weeks ago. I suspect that it took a bump on the trailer ride home. The compass is a Silva 1000 that I installed back in the early '90s.

I tried Googling "Silva Compass", but found only backpackers compasses on the Silva web site.

My question, do you think that this compass can be repaired, and if so, is it worth getting it repaired? Would it be less expensive to just replace it?

Thanks in advance.

Seems to me if that compass can't handle a few bumps its the wrong one for a trailer boat.
Actually, I don't think that's true at all. This compass has been bumping down the road for the past 15 or so years. This is the first season that we've kept the boat in a marina, so it's been trailered all over North Ohio for quite a while.

Yesterday afternoon, after I moved the boat from the driveway to the back of the house, the compass card is now sitting level, and it's pointing in about the right direction. I'm wondering if during the ride home, a small bubble was caught under the card and pushed it cockeyed.
