We are (hopefully) getting closer to purchasing our S2 8.5 and I'm searching for a dingy. My question is this....would a 10' (inflatable) dingy look silly being pulled by a 28' sailboat? Should I go with a smaller, maybe 8'? My husband brought up that point and now I'm wondering.... ha ha

I would think a 10' dingy would have so much room for "stuff". Send me your thoughts! :D

You may not want to use you dinghy for hauling or storing "stuff" , it's not a trailer, but for use as a tender, a 10 boat is nice. I tow an AVON 3.10 and it does as fine being towed as a previously owned smaller boat, but when you have 4 people do move around, or when you need to run 10 miles over open water to get a latte, the bigger boat really shines. Does it look silly? Not really. Nice to use? You bet!

Using it as a "trailer" would certainly invite some funny looks for sure lol thanks for the word picture Lorin :) we'll do our best to travel light!

Lorin's right. Keep in mind also that a "loaded" dinghy will affect boat performance and if the dinghy flips, whatever is in it wiil be in the drink, either sinking or floating away. (I guess you could tie it in.) It also sounds like a lot of work to load it and then unload it upon arriving at your destination, so you have room for people.

But no, I don't think it would be so large that it looks silly compared to the size of the boat. I have an 8' Apex that I wish was two feet bigger so tendering would be easier.

I worded my question in a way that sounds like I'm a hoarder lol. "stuff" would be whatever needs to go ON the boat and the dingy will not be used as a storage facility. We're new to sailing but not that new;)

I read it as intended. Funny how people can read the same words and get two different meanings. :) or maybe it's just a mindset thing.

A rigid floor is more comfortable to ride in but the roll up stores better. I have one of each and can't decide which way to go. Perhaps I have analysis paralysis.

Looks like we're going to get the HP275 9' with an inflatable floor. I hear it's not as stable as the rigid floor but will not be as tippy as a fiberglass dingy...Like you said (sailcruiser) it will store better and it's all of 7 lbs lighter as well. By the way!! We got the P&S TODAY for the S2 8.5!!!!!!!!!! next step....survey. We're looking for names if anyone has any ideas!
