I recently purchased a couple of signal flags from West Marine. When I went to attach them to my flag halyard I was stumped. I tied them on and they are flying but I am not sure if I did it right. Can anyone lead me to a illustration of how they are supposed to be attached?

Here's a link of nautical signal flags and their meaning. I assume you are wondering if you have any of them upside down and this will let you know:

If that's not what you're referring too you'll need to provide more detail as to what you are trying to figure out.

Thanks Lee but what I was looking for is how do you attach the flags to the halyard. Is there an illustration on how to do it someplace. The flags came with a loop on the top and a line on the bottom. I ran my halyard through the loop and tied the bottom but not certain if this is the proper attachment.

you have two options as I see it.. you buy a pair of englefield clips for each flag and a pair for each halyard. that is the easy way to clip on and off and be sure they stay.. they range in price from $4-7 per pair.. or you can make some knotted loops and tie short pieces of dowel on your halyards .. insert the dowel into the loop.. my problem with the latter it looks like it cost.
