Cruising World Sidebar

In the opening editorial in the new Cruising World magazine, there is a discussion about a company that was trying to work with NOAA on depth sounder units they put on boats (power, sail and TowboatUS boats) that record the soundings and upload them vie WiFi and how they are also using the social media type techniques to improve the data out there. NOAA dropped out as they said the data was not up to their standards, but based on what we were discussing, if they have the right algorithms some data abnormalities can be smoothed out, and over time all of the data can be validated like we were talking here.
