I have a leak on my port side plexi window.I removed the window to find a black rubber type filler sealant that seems rather thick.I have found a local vender to fabricate the new window, but I am wondering if anyone knows a good sealant to re-seat the new window with? I am planning on replacing all four windows ,so I could use any tips available.

Butyl tape

On my cat 27 I used butyl tape , this is the materiel used to seal car windshields, works very good, Now I'm talking about the window frame to cabin top seal. Call catalina as they will send you directions for this repair. Butyl tape can be aquired through a car windshield replacement shop.

Dow 795

Not to split hairs...but the windows are made of lexan. I am pretty sure it is much stronger than regular plexiglass.... The sealant your looking for is Dow 795. I called Dow Chemical ( found the number on the net) and they gave me the name of a local construction company I got it from.....I think it was 8 bucks or so a tube..... I got my new windows from catalina...they also sent me some black spacers to prevent squeezing out all of the sealant when I put the screws in. Be sure not to over tighten the screws. The screws are only to hold the window in place until the sealant cures. This sealant can be very messy... make sure to mask the fiberglass, inside and outside. I am not sure how much info you want. I can email you more info if you want. Tom

Butyl Tape Availability

We just removed and re-installed all the windows on our '76 (+/-) Catalina. Was able to get the butyl tape at a local camper supply store. Quite reasonable. All windows, which leaked bad when we purchased boat last fall, were weather tight throughout this season. Very pleased with the results and the material was easy to work with.
