I've been get my 222 ready for the up coming season and one of the first things on the list was to replace my upper side stays. When I removed the boot on my spreader I noticed A rusty wire that secures the side stay in the groove of the spreader. When I removed the stay that little wire fell off. I can see the importance of holding the stay in the groove when there is no load on it but I would rather not use a wire that could rust. Are there other options? Maybe a rubber "o" ring or a wire of a material that won't rust.

stay retainers

Replace the rusty wires with stainless steel wires. Usually can get it at your local chandlry (West Marine) store. John

Rigging Wire

That's stainless steel rigging wire, can get at sail makers loft, local rigging guy or west marine. Probably not good to use anything else....Cheers
