I was having electrical problems on my H320 with Yanmar 18 2GM that I won't bore you with. Wires snug, relay replaced, no corrosion, batteries recharged.

The engine starts okay but still has a sickly alarm sound as if the alarm is weak and dying. Used to be a robust scream. Any thougts? Thanks.

I will assume the alarm you would normally hear when you first start the eng. is for low oil pressure. It could be the oil pressure sensor is going bad. Also, if your alarm is like mine... I have a 3GMD ... there are electronic components inside the alarm housing that allow the same alarm to be used for all of the alarm functions. The connections for these components could be damaged by corrosion on the circuit board.
Hope the is helpful.. Duke

most likely bad corroded/connections. check termination at sensors (engine side).

Pull the connector off the oil pressure switch and ground it.. If the alarm still is sickly, it is not the switch.. trace the wire back toward the alarm and ground the alarm end when you find a connector.. if it still is sickly, it is the alarm.. if one connection stops the sickliness, that is the bad connection.. Sounds more complex to troubleshoot than it is..

don't forget the ground for the sensor is the engine through the oil fittng. If that has teflon tape or is corroded it can cause problems.
