shuddering tiller

When I run my engine Universal 25 Diesel, The tiller and rudder wobbles quite a lot under power. I am wondering if this is caused by the prop wash or if the shaft might be out of true, it doesn't happen when I'm sailing. Any experience here? Thanks.

C30? Rudder shaft housing may be worn. Two ways to fix. 1) Remove rudder head and insert drafting film (.002 or .005 thickness). 2) Haul the boat, remove the rudder, clean post and tube, wax the post, replace the tube, pour resin into the tube. The Catalina tech support has a several page fix they will fax you. Their number is (818)844-3810John G

Mine Shudders Too...

On our 27 the tiller shudders when under power. The prop wash seems to be the culprit because the rudder didn't seem to have excessive play when we hauled her out. We also don't experience any play or wobble when under sail.

Nice to hear that someone else has this problem, mine is a 30. Will try drafting film fix as I don't want to haul out until winter.
