Fixed Rigging
Hi Jennie:The O'Day 22 has two shrouds on each side of the mast in addition to the headstay and back- stay. The side shrouds are broken down into an upper shroud from the top of the mast, and one lower fshroud from just below the spreaders. Both side shrouds connect to the deck through a U-bolt that is through-bolted through the deck to angled brackets below-decks.The U-bolt has a small nodule on it to keep the shrouds seperated. I do not know whether it matters which shroud goes on the forward facing part of the U-bolt or not. It may not matter with a boat the size of the 22.I have known of masts falling on this boat from rot around the U-bot chainplate. Check your chainplates carefully for rot around the deck and bulkhead below, as well as check that the U-bolt and fittings aren't corroded, bent, or cracked in any way. These things can give way with little notice.Hope this helps.Fair winds.Stu"Karakahl"1979 O'Day 22 CB
