Jennez, My '73 had one lower and one upper on each side. I just learned from a '75 owner that his has one upper and two lowers. Ron

Chainplates

Hi Jenny -Take a look at the deck and look for chainplate tops with holes to attach shrouds to. This should give you an indication how the shrouds (and how many there are) should be set up.Hope this helps,Trevor

Fixed Rigging

Hi Jennie:The O'Day 22 has two shrouds on each side of the mast in addition to the headstay and back- stay. The side shrouds are broken down into an upper shroud from the top of the mast, and one lower fshroud from just below the spreaders. Both side shrouds connect to the deck through a U-bolt that is through-bolted through the deck to angled brackets below-decks.The U-bolt has a small nodule on it to keep the shrouds seperated. I do not know whether it matters which shroud goes on the forward facing part of the U-bolt or not. It may not matter with a boat the size of the 22.I have known of masts falling on this boat from rot around the U-bot chainplate. Check your chainplates carefully for rot around the deck and bulkhead below, as well as check that the U-bolt and fittings aren't corroded, bent, or cracked in any way. Two shrouds each side. The upper shroud goes to the rear of the chainplate.Carefully check your chainplates, there can be corrosion below deck level (you can't see it). I replaced mine with new ones I purchased from "Rudy" (his address should be somewhere on this site)@ a cost of around $70.00
