Does the upper shroud attach to the forward hardpoint or the aft hardpoint...can't recall. I do however remember they were not crossed. Thanks !!

Upper shrouds to aft...

The upper shrouds are attached aft of the lower shrouds on my H23. If your 26 has swept back spreaders like mine it is probably the same...

Rigging

The uppers go to the forward chainplate and the lowers go to the aft chain plate, thats what it shows in my owners manual for my 1996 H26. I have noticed that some H26s in my sailing club do the opposite. The dealer rigged that way also. Ken

I'm going to say the H26 is the same as my H23.5. The Uppers go forward of the lowers, otherwise the y cross ...RickM...

Correct position

I have a '94 H26. The correct position (generally for any boat) is the lowers are back and the uppers are forward. The purpose of the lowers is to keep the mast from bowing forward. Tension on the lower shrouds in the correct position will pull back on the middle section of mast which will have a natural tendency to bend forward. Attached is a picture of my boat at the dock. Hope this helps. Happy sailing! Pat

Maybe not....?

ALthough I dont have a 26. I somehow got this link - H240 and H260 manual. Page 36B shows the uppers going aft for the H260. maybe the H26 is the same????

I changed my previous post and more...

Sorry, I typed the wrong thing earlier today! I was voting that the uppers go aft so the turnbuckles and boots don't cross, but I typed forward instead of aft. My point was about the crossing. Maybe this is the only valid issue for making a decision: letting them cross can bend the vinyl boots (it did on my H23.5). I bought new boots because they were trashed from the original owner having them cross (not to mention a 40 degree _bend_ in the lower turnbuckle T-bolt!). Maybe the 2 or 3 inches don't matter, but if you look at it, the uppers go over the swept-back spreaders, so it makes sense to use the aft chainplates to maximize the back support of the rigging. RickW - If you are referring to a manual drawing similar to page 47 A/B of the H260 manual (John's link), the crossing is an optical illusion! The uppers are shown aft but the drawing perspective is from the aft quarter making it appear as if they cross. Viewed directly from the side, they would not appear to cross! ...RickM...

I was Looking at my Manual for the 19, 23.5 and 26

I do not eremember which went what way but it becomes obvious because the touch at the cross one way and not the other. Some of the 260s have a different rig does that change things or make a diference?

I asked Don Martin at Hunter customer service about the proper setup for my H260 and this is his reply: "The owners manual is a bit confusing, the shroud coming from the end of the spreader should go to the forward u-bolt and the one coming from the mast should go to the aft u-bolt. Thanks, Don Martin Hunter Marine Customer Service customerservice@huntermarine.com"
