what are the recommended shroud tensions for an o'day 26 1984 with harken furling? cannot find info anywhere for this boat.

what size is your shroud diameter
If 1/8" ss then accroding to the Loos gauge the forestay should be 360# and shrouds 240# and backstay no more that 500 and something. (can't remember exactly but will check the gauge next time I am down to the boat tomorrow if needed)

26 O'Day Shroud Tension
On setting O'Day shroud tension follow first sets of directions posted under subject heading of 'rigging tension'. Do not use loos guage as numbers appear to tight and excessive tenion on these boats could cause compression damage to cabin top. My initial set up was by an experienced user of loos guages for setting up racing boats. These are not racing boats and too much tension has caused cabin top compression damage. Follow the concept that the shrouds should be equal and initially tight when set up on calm water in calm wind conditions. When sailing the windward shroud will be tight and the leeward will be visably slack. This is typically a safe method for this type boats. I would be interested in seeing the page from the 192 on setting shroud tension. Additionally, the chain plates for all shrouds/stays should be physically inspected from underneath. These boats have a history of chain plate attachment failure due to water damage to bulkheads and missing nuts. Ed K. 26
