I am working on an older (1978) O'Day 27. The upper and lower shrouds seem to be of different sizes and sizes that would require the use of two different Loos tension gauges. Do I really need to buy two gauges or is there another way to set the tension? Is there a way to use one of the gauges outside its specified range?

Loos Gauges

Hi Tom - Loos Gauges come in at least 2 sizes, as you know. They both are used for different ranges of cable diameters. I had to buy 2 gauges for my upper and lowers on my Catalina 36 for what sounds like the same situation you are in. Perhaps you could find a dock neighbor to go in on the costs for you? Trevor

I have a 76 Model Oday 27, the owners manuel states that the upper shrouds should be tightened 3 to 4 turns past hand tightened and the lowers hand tightened only. Hope that answers your questions.
