Any problems with using the shroud chainplate or winch to tie off a spring line on a Hunter '22. Using the forward cleat throws my fenders up and the winch and rear cleats are too far aft. Any suggestions.

I wouldn't

On my Catalina 22 I have a mid-ship cleat that I use for my spring. I would try to use that or your winch somehow, but the chainplate.... I don't like messing around with the rigging in any way its not intended to be used. You are adding a lot of side pull to it, which is not how its designed to be pulled. Just my 2 cents....

Mike's right

Don't use chainplates as cleats. Winches are fine, if far enough forward.

Winches

are okay...another option, if you have a furling head sale, purchasing a pair of cleats that attached to the furling tracks. This is what I use for both my spring lines.
