Does anyone know where to get the hand tool that aids in the adjustment of the slide adjusters that are standard on the 26X? I saw it once when surfing the net and now I can't remember where it was. Also looking for a backstay adjuster. Ken

I don't know about a tool, but I used an ice pick and 3/16 in sharp punch. Worked great. It is really easy if you let off on the forestay to adjust and then retighten. I found my X handles much better with just about all the rake taken out of the mast. I drilled a hole thru the mast about 3 in above the original forestay attachment and moved the forestay up. This allowed me to take the rake out (left about 1 degree in relation to cabin top) without getting shorter forestay wire. I left about 2 inch bow in mast. I replaced the flat channel adjuster on the back stay with a turnbuckle. Makes raising and rigging mast easier/quicker.

I am keen to know what you mean by "handles much better" Does the 26X point any better? If so, please tell us more. I joke with my keelboat mates, that my 26x doesn't come with close haul. The points of sail range as follows. broad reach => close reach => overbearing weatherhelm => aimless bobbing (in spite of pretty good sail shape) => irons And just to clarify, did you mean taking the rake out, is a more vertical mast.

Taking rake out means to make the mast more vertical; in my case almost 90 degrees to top of cabin. I don't know what rake is in relation to actual waterline. Before adjustment, boat had almost uncontrollable weather helm. It now points as well as the Hunter and Cutter that I owned before.

Reasons for rake aft
Billy, I wonder if the lack of a rake aft is conditioned by your boat being heavier in the rear than some. For example, 50 hp motor, extra fuel or batteries, ice chests, etc. in the rear, thereby providing a rake to the mast relatie to the water line? What do you think, since most tuners I've seen write that the M26X rake should be 7 to 10 degrees aft? I'm wondering because I'm doig a lot of mods that will add weight to the cockpit area which will only sometimes be counter balanced by 12 gallons of water in the bow.

My Mac fully loaded for a 3 - 4 day cruise floats with the painted waterline pretty close to level. I sat down and set up a loading plan (2 batteries, two ice chests, and 20 gal water included) so as to keep boat pretty level. I adj my mast sitting in my driveway and took out at least 4 degrees. Haven't checked at float with a plumb line. Just happy with way it handles. Just eyeballing at anchor, I would estimate about 3-4 degrees. I do not use a genoa so I need less main aft.
