Would like to get more use from the shower in my H37.5. Can never get all the excess water out of the sump without removing the floor panels and sponging it up. Has anyone come up with a modification to solve this problem?

Install a shower pump without a sump and float. On my boat, the shower drains into the bilge. I just attached another hose to the end of that line that goes to a shower pump, that pumps into the sink drain. The switch is in the shower. No more wet bilge. I wanted as little stagnant water as possible, that's why I opted not to go with a sump system, besides, this pump will handle hair, soap, etc. Defender has the pump for about $150, bilge hose, and push/pull switch ($15). Home Depot provided the sink elbow with the dishwasher branch (where I plumbed in the pump outflow). If you're interested, I'll take some pics for you.

It is not a very sanitary design. I have often thought of making a build up and a proper sump for the pump that just fits it. I figure that I would only need to raise the floor about 1/2" to get the water to cover the intake ports of the pump I have. I was thinking of taking some styrofom and after fashioning it into shape putting a 1oz fiberglass cloth over it and sealing with resin. OR plumb a line to the aft sump box and then you really could get her to drain dry AND only have one place to clean out. Both sound involved and require a lot of finagling when I could be sailing and spend 5 minutes sponging.

My o4 h-36 came with a pump connected directly to the shower drain. Pump looks to be identical to fresh water pump. There is a switch in the head that you turn on before shower and turn off when finished showering. It has a filter screen that requires cleaning monthly. Pump has worked flawlessly with no smell or water left over. We use ours regularly no marina showers for us. Installation is seems to be simple if you have a drain hose you can connect directly to pump.

Understand your problem. Sump on my 37.5 never empties fully, and that water is foul. And, the sump on the 37.5 doesn't allow for much modification, you are are already on the hull. Except for raising the floor, which sounds waaaay too hard to me. Someone here designed a non-submersible(?) type pump, like a bilge pump, with a hose into the sump, with a metal filter on the end. He reported that it would take almost, if not all of the water. I kept the link somewhere and wanted to try it on my 37.5. Also, liquid soap instead of bars in shower really helps. Something that makes the bar solid leaves a residue and that is part of what traps gunk and makes a mess. Doesn't solve the pblm, but makes it a little better.
