Just an FYI... I discovered, by accident, this weekend that the discharge hose from the shower sump on my 386 contains a backflow valve. I would estimate that about a gallon or slightly less of water resides in the hose leading to the overboard discharge. Freezing weather would definitly have frozen and broken the hose had I not stumbled across the checkvalve. Jeff

Anywhere there is a Check Valve

Also note that anywhere that there is a check valve in an overboard drain hose, there will be an accumulation on the outboard side of the check valve. This will pertain to bilge pumps, shower sumps and possibly a fridge sump (if you have one). Thanks for the info.

That's why I add antifreeze...

to the bilge, then turn on the pump. The pump pushes the antifreeze which in turn pushes the water in the hose overboard, but not enough to cause the antifreeze to get pushed overboad. Thus the remaning fluid still in the hose is mostly antifreeze. ;^) ~ Happy sails to you ~ _/) ~
