On my 1985 O'Day 35 I have a circuit breaker that says 'Shower Pump' but seems to do nothing. I have tried to look in the hole below the washroom but cannot tell if there is a pump in there or not. Should there be a pump and if not will the water just go into the bilge?

Morning Phiggins: Pull the sole plate out in the head/shower. This will enable you to look back under the deck and see if there is a shower pump. This may have been an option for the 035. If there is not one visible, your shower is draining into the bilge. If there is one, it's probably not working and the shower water is draining into your bilge anyway. If this is the case, I would suggest a fresh water rinse every time between usages of your boat. Soap laden shower water sitting in the bilge for an extended period of time with the boat closed up is not a pleasant thing to open a boat up to.

On our ODay 35 the tubing from the shower drain, forward inboard side of head floor, leads via hose under the head removable floor panel to the diaphram pump that is under the forward end of the settee on the port side. There is a pull switch behind the head. I had to replace the switch and the pump. It pumps through a hose to a thru-hull that is next to the head sink drain thru-hull behind the head sink vanity accessable through the vanity door. Hope this helps. Good Winds, DaveM s/v DAMWEGAS

Morning: Is that a factory deal or does it look like someone fixed it up like that? I have an 0/34 that still drains into the bilge and I've been trying to come up with a plan to put a shower sump in. As I use that particular area that you mentioned for storage, I hadn't really thought about putting one there but I can see how it would be a good place. I've been thinking about trying to get one in the small keel void under the deck inboard of the shower pan. Can you come up with some pictures of your set up? Thanks!

JB I will get some pictures. I have a pullout storage tray in that area. Under this port forward settee hatch is the fresh water intake Y valve, pump and accumulator. In addition, there is the paddle speed transducer, the shower sump diaphram pump, the head intake thru-hull. On that thru-hull I put a tee for a deck washdown pump that is also in this same section. The freshwater system and shower pump diaphram pump looked to be factory installed. Good Winds, Dave M s/v DAMWEGAS

Sounds pretty much the same as mine with the exception of the paddle wheel, and of course, I don't have the shower sump. My transducer is located beneath the sole plate in the shower pan. Pictures would certainly help. This is a project that I've had on the back burner for a couple of years now and they would certainly help me come up with a workable plan.

Our O35 is exactly as Dave describes, except that the speed transducer is located under the starboard forward settee hatch. (Also, we haven't installed a washdown pump, although that's on the list.)

for the replies. The shower drain on mine has an elbow connector that is not attached to anything. It seems to me there is a sump below the connector that is deeper than the main bilge so maybe it was meant to hold the water from the shower and then pump it out. I was also thinking of putting in a pumpout connected to the either the head thruhull or the sink thruhull.
