New to this site and sailing !

We just bought a 2000 26X after years of shopping for just the right boat.

Has anyone installed a shower in the head of a 26X ?
I have heard of it being done but , but can't seem to find any details on it.
I assume a drain in the floor to let the water run into the bilge , or perhaps a box below the floor with a bilge pump in it.

Looking for ideas.
Thanks

A sump box would work best. Make sure you add a water detector (or two). And you might consider measuring the ceiling height. I've never stepped in mine as we use it for storage, but I would imagine your neck or your knees need to be at a 45 degree angle to crouch in under the shower head.

This may be too primitive for you, but I just hoist a sun shower up on a halyard at the mast and shower on the foredeck in my bathing suit.

We plan to put in a cockpit shower as well , but I was looking for a way to be able to bath in public w/o causing a scene.
No doubt , we are going to have to sit on the pot while showering in the head.

Our plan with the boat , now that the kids are grown , is to move aboard and travel for a few years . We will be doing this on a shoestring so we
have to cut every corner. We have been motor cruisers for many years , but switched to a motor sailer for econmic reasons and a love of sailing

As said we have been looking at Macs for awhile and I had read a few articles about shower modifications in the head.

The head seems very small and crowded for me. Sealing the floor seams would be a job. Plus, everything in there would have to be wiped down afterwards to fight mildew.

I have a small inflatable baby bathtub that I put at the bottom of the steps. I have two light weight shower curtains that I attach around the sliding hatch opening. I then hang my solar shower bag from the boom and take my shower outside the head door. When finished, the curtains shake out and are folded into a zip lock bag. The tub is easily dumped into the cockpit, deflated and placed in the bag. That may sound like a lot of work but it really isn't. A lot less that clearing and drying the head would be.

This procedure is only used when the cold wind is blowing. When the weather is warm and the breeze light, I shower in the cockpit after dark.

Check on macgregorsailors.com - they have more info on mods for X's and M's over there, and I remember seeing this mod there. -Paul
