I recently purchased a 1980 Hunter 33. My problem is that the shower drain still has the antifreeze from the winter storage sloshing around. How do I get this to drain out and where does it drain to? I don't believe it drains into the bilge so does it drain into the holding tank? I have not tried using the head yet because I wanted to get this resolved first. The owners manual really has little info about this topic. Thanks!

If the shower doesn't drain into the bilge...

It can only go ito a sump that's emptied by a sump pump. It does NOT go into your holding tank. Find the switch for the sump pump...flush a LOT of water through the shower drain while it's running to rinse it out. You need to explore your whole boat in detail to find all the seacocks, bilge pumps, fresh water pump, holding tank, maerator pump (if there is one)...where all the hoses and wiring go, etc. 'Cuz an emergency is NOT the best time to START trying to figure out how to cut power to something that's smoking or where the water that's trying to sink your boat is coming in. You also need to get the manuals for all the equipment on your boat so you know how to maintain/operate it correctly. You can get those from the individual equipment mfrs.

Hunter 1980 - 33 Bradenton
Two years ago I also purchased a 1980 Hunter 33. It is a great boat. You will enjoy her. The shower drains into its own sump. Access to this sump is under the batteries. The switch for the pump is on the left near the electric outlet when facing the sink. Mine didn't run at first. It needed rewiring. This is a small project. I don't use the shower and stopped up the drain with a plug. After you take a look and understand the system you can do as you please.

H33 shower sump draining.

As Paul says, the sump for thet H33 is under the batteries and the switch is on the left above the counter in the head, a pull push toggle switch. The pump is just a normal bilge type pump and it will not drain the sump completely. Best way to get all of the water out is to sail on port tack. Any undrained water will show up in the head floor pan and can easily be sponged out into the lavatory.

Thanks to all!

Thanks to all! I know exactly where the switch is and wondered what it was for! Yes, I do need to get more info on this boat and look forward to learning more about her. My previous boat was a Lightning, so it has been somewhat of a culture shock.

I had to replace the sump hose

The white hose from the sump to the thru-hull on the starboard side behind the sliding doors in the head needed replacing. It is a long hose taking several turns to get to the thru-hull, and is not able to empty itself after the sump is run, causing a couple cups of water to flow back into the well under the batteries. I installed a check valve that stopped the flow-back of water. Some say this isn't a good idea because check valves can get stuck or clog, but I think since this isn't the bilge, it is OK. Just remember to run anti-freeze thru it for winter storage or else it will freeze and break. Same thing goes for the ice box drain which is a hose that runs into the bilge. Run anti-freeze through that hose for winter storage. The boat is built around that hose, and needs to be disassembled to be replaced. Don't ask me how I know that.
