Shower Drain Alternative for 336

Some time ago I requested input about an alternative to the standard shower-drain set-up on the 336. The recent discussion of the 376 drain refreshes my inquisitiveness. There seems to be no room the get under the shower directly. It seems to me that I will need to build a sump (box above the bottom of the bilge) in the rear section of the bilge to catch the shower waste and then set up a dedicated sump, with a float-activated switch in that box. The shower currently just drains through a hose into the rear section of the sump. I can do this. It is really pretty simple. However, I have not determined where to have this additional pump direct the flow. I have trouble thinking I should join to the bilge pump hose. If I put a one-way valve in to prevent simply pumping into the bilge that gives me a device that could fail in a place I do not want any risk. Nor do I want to cut a hole in my boat. Any ideas? Thanks for any advice. Rodney S/V Avanti

Beneteau Solution

I have a prefab self contained sump box and pump (West Marine/Boat US) in my 340. But the shower drains very slowly. Beneateau 40s (charter) have a pump that sucks the water from the shower and pumps it directly overboard, hence the shower drains quite quickly. They use a waterproof switch in the shower to actuate it. Drain can be to a new above water line hole, or through an existing with two check valves. I'm strongly thinking about doing this, but it seems a better solution than you are considering or what I have.

Same for the 33.5

The 33.5 has the same problem. Ours drains into the bilge and I am tired of cleaning the mess. On all the boats I chartered (all Beneteaus) each shower had a waterproof switch installed that activated a pump to pump the drain water overboard directly. Whale make a pump specifically for this type of application, in that it ran run dry and it is self priming - Gulper 220. The only reason that I have delayed is that I am trying to find a way to "T" in the drain from the icebox at the same time so that I will have a clean bilge. The water from the shower and the ices box are the two worst for bilge odours. Merrill Mant Ambition
