SHOWER BASIN HOLE

RE: 1992 37.5 LEGENDI'M A NEW OWNER OF THIS VESSEL AND UPON LIFTING OUT THE TEAK DRAIN BOARDS AND CLEANING THE SHOWER BASIN I NOTE AN APX. 1-1/2 INCH HOLE RIGHT NEXT TO THE MANUAL SHOWER SUMP PUMP. THE PAST OWNER KEPT THE VESSEL VERY ORIGINAL AND THE HOLE APPEARS TO BE FACTORY MADE. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THIS HOLE LEEDS TO BY SIMPLY ALLOWING WATER TO FLOW THROUGH IT BUT WATER NEVER COMES OUT ANYWHERE ELSE. ANYONE KNOW?OCEANOKIE

Troubleshoot

First, please DON't SHOUT, it's hard to read.Second, when you pour water into the sump does it drain down the hole?Is the hole in the bottom of the sump or in the side? If side which side? Is the hole just through the fibreglass or is there some kind of fitting or hose attached? If you can pour water into the hole and it doesn't show up in the bilge does it pump over the side? If so your previous owner may have installed an automatic sump box & pump under the floorboards just forward of the head entry to the main cabin OR possibly (maybe even more likely now that I think about it) next to the sump and against the hull. Try looking down along the hull through the curved plexiglass cabinte in the head. You may need to feel around down there.Good luck and enjoy your new boat.Jim"Prospect" '93 h37.5

Hmmm

Jim,The hole appears to have been made with a clean drill style hole saw. It's location is apx. 1 inch from the sump pump in the lowest portion of the shower basin. I've filled it before with water and it takes on apx 3-4 gal. then fills completely full to the top of the hole. Only thing I can think of is that maybe the former owner drilled it thinking it would simply drain under the cabin floor and into the main bilge area to be pumped out there? The boat only has 200 engine hours and has hardly been used so I don't think it was made by the former owner whom has unfortunetly passed away and has taken this sort of info with him. Your model and year is very close to mine. If yours does not have this hole then I think I better plug that sucker up now and hope it is not draining into some cavity in the bottom hual unable to be removed! What do you think?Mark
