Golly, that's a tough

Question. Does she still have windows in her? Does the forehatch seal? Has the standing rigging been replaced since she was launched? Is the running rigging in very good condition? Does she have a large manual bilge pump? Is the tiller in perfectly good condition? Are the sails made with more than one set of reef points? Does it have enough water storage capacity for thirty days at sea? Is the cook stove in excellent condition? Can you carry enough cooking fuel for thirty days? Does the magnetic compass work perfectly? have you checked to see if it tells the truth? Do you have a backup compass? Do you have any knowledge of celestial navigation? Just in the event that the GPS goes south.

Pacific High - Pakalolo Hawaii

Captain Jack, A bristal is a good yacht, and tracks well, but I would need to see it or a recent survey. Ross's questions are on the money, but further; carry an EPIRB an infaltable on the foredeck, good charts, and check out the Pilot Charts so you know what you got. My best crossings have always been in May or June, (I'd never make another winter crossing) the Trans-Pac foes over in July. With the Paciif High in place it is a relatively easy downhill cruise, abut shit happens; expect it! You will be seeing the volcanic mountains from several days out, the Sandwich chain is very hard to miss, but folks have done it...
