Should I upgrade the seat cushions on the 260?

Nice

I have never seen a photo of the fabric that comes standard with the Hunter 260. Does anyone have a photo of it? What is the general opinion of the $400 option to upgrade over the standard? Is the standard fabric vinyl? Also can I buy cockpit seat cushions that are cheaper and better than the $640 ones Hunter sells with the boat? Please post pics of the options you have seen. Thanks!

Cushions

Hi Nice, I believe that the std interior cushions are vinyl. I upgraded to cloth on my 1999 H260. Your dealer can provide the details on current modles. Cockpit cushions... I had them for my first 26 foot boat. I found that they tended to slide and fall when healed, and were a bit of a nusance to store, esp. when cruising. I opted not to have them on the H260, and I don't miss them. Instead, I have a bunch of throwable PDF "boat cushions" that people can sit on if they want and they are easy to store and handy in case of a man overboard. Fair winds, Tom

depends...

Whether to go with vinyl or fabric in the cabin, in my experience, depends on whether or not you have kids. I have an 8 and a 6 year old. A couple times in rough weather they have gotten sick and while the 8 year old can make it to the head or rail, when my youngest was 4 and 5, she only made it as far as all over the cabin. The vinyl seats were very easy to clean and I wouldn't have it any other way. No problem with other accidents/spills either.

I like vinyl

I too like vinly because it is easy to clean. YOu can make or have made nice cloth covers for your vinyl cushsions as well. If you don't have children then the upgrade will make sitting and sleeping much more comfortable.

fabric picture

Attached is a pic of our H26 fabric cushions. I don't think the fabric on the newer 260 has changed much. I put a liner under the fabric on our boat to prevent spills from seeping into the cushions. The fabric is easy to clean and I keep Scotch Guard on it.

The Little I Know

I have the fabric interior cushions on my '97 h26 and like them. I have four young kids and the cushions have held up very well over the 3 years I've had the boat. I just bought closed cell foam cockpit cushions at the Strictly Sail show in Chicago. After looking into it, the closed cell foam seemed to be preferred by most over the fabric covered cushions (you may want to check the archives from a month or two ago). There were two brands of closed cell foam cushions at the show - Bottomsiders (sold on this site) and C-cushions. Both are very good quality, nice-looking, and very similar in price. I (i.e. my wife)opted for the C-cushions and we laid out about $440 (incl shipping). The fabric cushions I looked into were also priced in the $400 - $500 range. Bottom-Line: If the Hunter price is $640, they have a healthy mark-up included and you should be able to do better.

C-Cushions

I have had my cockpit C-Cushions about 7-8 years now and would recommend them. They were custom made to fill up the seat area completely, and are heavy enough to stay in place except if really heeled. They don't absorb sunscreen oils and are pretty good for use as floats when swimming. The only downside is that they take up the full length of the main bunk area when trailering.

Cockpit Cushions

I bought the Hunter cockpit cushions when I bought my 260. They are now 5 years old, and have held up very well - still look like new. Also, they are kept in place by snaps (one front, one rear), whcih keeps them from sliding. I would do it again. Ray Trombino

Had both - go cloth

My first boat (H23.5)had vinyl interior upholstery. It was hard in the winter and sweaty to sit/sleep on in the summer. We lived in Va. Beach, VA. My 26 has the fabric upgrade. It has been very easy to maintain and is significantly more comfortable. 400 semolians is a steal for the upgrade, and it will cost a lot more to upgrade later.
