I tried running the sheets inside and the consensus is right - loss of power from partially rolling the genoa more than offset the very modest gain in pointing ability. I found that I had to furl the genoa quite a bit more than I had thought. The leech rubbed the lower shrouds with any degree of overlap at all. After a couple of tacks with the sheets inside I was convinced that the loss of speed was substantial while pointing was little, if any, better and more than lost to increased leeway. I moved them back outside and as it happened, there were a couple of boats nearby on the same tack, and I found that I outpointed one and was moving faster than the other while pointing just as well, so that was pleasing.
