It Depends
Depending on what you want to do with it, the 192 is a great boat. I would not recommend that you try to sail it on open ocesn, or with more than 2-3 other adults on board, for a very long time. 2 good friends could weekend on the boat but it would be more like camping, and would be very cramped. I own one an find it to be the perfect boat. Nobody in the family likes to sail except me - so I almost alwaya singlehand the boat. I'm able to handle it myself in all but the worst weather. If you're sailing on the Jersey Shore the shallow draft of the 192 is a must. Also, learn how to reef the main first thing for your own safety. I leave mine in a slip all summer to maximize my sailing time but rigging it myself has not been a problem. I keep it on the trailer at the marina during the winter. The original roller furler should be replaced immediately, with either a CDI FF1 or with just a hank-on jib. The original furler was old technology and was always jamming - a dangerous condition. If the sails are original they are most likely shot, so you should plan on replacing them soon. I just got brand new sails and it makes a world of difference. Also, if the outboard is a 2 cycle and runs well it should be good indefinitely. You can't buy a small 2 cycle anymore and a 4 cycle, 4 HP will weogh about 20 pounds more and cost about $1000. I owned the earlier O'Day 19 (1979) model for about 10 years and the 192 is a much better boat. What other questions do you have?
