Hello all, I am looking at purchasing a 1998 Catalina 380. I could think of no better place to get valuable opinions than here. I have attached a link that describes her. Any input would be much appreciated.

Here is what I think

Is it in the right lake for you? The price is a little high. I would think the boat should go for around 120 - 130 range. I don't see anything listed about air conditioning, a MUST for the location. The 380 is a GREAT boat with a good layout inside. The fact that it is land locked is a problem unless you want it in the lake. I would pass if you didn't becuase of price. Catalina introduced the Yamnar engine in 2000. That brings down the value of the older 1990s models.

Where is it?

Hey Jeff, Thats a big gal for Lanier, and a chunk of change for sailing. Is the vessel already on the lake? If so, its got to be Sunrise Marina. We are on a Catalina 30 at Sunrise and from my observations over the years, the sailboats seem to be getting larger, but most still sit at the dock. No doubt freshwater has its advantages on a vessel, but why select a 38 footer? Their are plenty of 30's, 32's and 34's on the Lake that would do just fine for half to three quarters the price if your week-ending it. Are your plans to move it to the coast for serious cruising? Are you a boat owner now? Experienced with surveyors in the area? Marina? Good luck Bob Lanier

C380

Seems like a large boat for a small lake. But, if that's all the lake you have and you want the boat...get a good survey, talk 'em down if you can and get it. It's your boat, your money and your life, do what you want to. What you don't want to happen is in 10 years, look back and think..."damn I should have gotten that C380!"
