What are the plus and minuses of lighter displacement 28' (7,000 lbs) and the heavier 30'(10,000 lbs) and is there any difference in cockpit size? I will be a coastal sailor southern maine to block island with family or friends.
you are talking some sheltered water ... but not enough to be comfortable. 27 would be good in Narragansett Bay, But kicking across from the canal to Block you will feel better and do better in the 30. Vic "Seven"
Frank: I sail the 28 on the Great Lakes and as much as I like the boat I expect to be in a 32' boat or larger in the next few years. The 28 is a great boat but you'll find the 30 that much more comfortable and roomy. Costs such as slip fees, winter lay up and insurance are about the same so if you can find an affordable 30 that would be my choice. Good luck, Mike S/B Pitterpat, Lake Huron
Hi frank - I agree with the other posts here; a bigger boat will feel more stable and stiff in a seaway. And as Mike pointed out, the extra 2 feet won't contribute much to additional maintenance/moorage costs. Have fun! Trevor
