Shore Power

I have recently purchased a '97 Hunter 26 which does not have any shore power. I am interested in installing shore power. (our home port doesn't have power available, but we have done, and plan on doing more trailersailing where shore power is available) I am interested in having a few 110 outlets, and some type of battery charger. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to put power inlet?, where to run the wiring?, where to put an AC breaker panel and which one? (I assume that one is needed), and what is the best alternative for charging the batteries (I have two banks) and/or running my 12v equipment in port (mostly just lights)

h26shore power

My shore power socket on my '96 h26 is mounted about 5" above the deck by the flat spot on port side of bulkhead where you would plant your foot while climbing up the boarding ladder, the 30a,120v wire(boat rated) wire goes from there to a 30a breaker/polarity switch mounted on the side of the galley stove/sink assembly and it faces into the aft berth area. from that the wiring goes into the first outlet, a ground fault one, that faces into the galley mounted again on the stove/sink assembly, a second one is wired under the seat closest to cooler holder and that seems to give enough outlets for the few things we use 120v for. Hope this helps. It sure beats having the shore power inlet being mounted near the "windshield" that I've seen on some h26's and we never seem to be too far away w/50' shore power cord.

I forgot about your request about battery charger-I have very seldom needed one as it seems that powering in and out of the marina has kept the batteries in good shape. I did do the 2 battery setup with battery selector switch awhile back and that means less worries plus if I do drain all the batteries the engine will still pull start easily.(Nissan OB) I think having a sailing season as short as ours helps the batteries last longer too.... I also misspelled my last name on other post-unforgivable. Bob Schmit(SV Nodee)
