In a H25.5, where should the shore power recepticle be located? Since we're going to be installing this ourselves, we need access so that we can run the wires, but don't want to have wires inside the occupied space (where people are). We'e like the panel to probably be installed right next to the existing 12v DC panel. TIA

Bill,

Be sure to use only quality marine components. Then go for it. Follow your own installation criteria. Cables in the open should be supported. The job is not hard. Most homeowners are allowed by law to wire their own homes and a boat is not much different. Just remember to have fun. :)

One location idea

The previous owner of my 25.5 installed a shore power receptacle on the aft end of the starboard cockpit seat. I should also mention that he moved the battery to the starboard cockpit locker, and his primary purpose with the shore power receptacle was to provide power to a battery charger/maintainer.

25.5 shorepower

Mine is in the same location discussed by Charles. The wiring then runs to a breaker on the main panel. The wiring then goes to individual outlet boxes located on the port side of the engine compartment, on the shelf areas near the main bulkhead (each side), one on the aft portion of the starbord shelf (immediately forward of the galley area), one in the head sink enclosure, and one in on the V-berth bulkhead immediately forward of the head. This was an apparent overkill, but the system works well. The bulkhead outlets are installed in normal orientations. The outlets on the shelf areas in the main cabin area are installed facing upward. If I used the shorepower more, I would not like the potential for these upward facing outlets to catch spills and short, but I have had no problems with the limited use I have made. The wiring is located within enclosed compartments and under the main cabin shelving. Well hidden and looks easily installed. A ground fault protection device is installed in the system.

Shore Power

You might want to look at my website for some ideas on how I wired my H260 for shorepower. http://webpages.charter.net/gkobernus/H260_web/electrical.htm
