shore power conversion project

i'd like to know where to begin to convert a standard 1973 cat 27 for shore power. any advice would be very useful and helpful. i'm fairly inexperienced with electronics, but i'm also pretty handy in general. is this something i should leave to the pros and if so, how much would something like this cost.

Nigel Calder's book "Boatowners Electrical Manual" or something to that effect would be a great help to you. If you're inexperienced, you might think about hiring someone to do it with you there so you can watch what he's doing

I did mine

I did mine, but I'd had a lot of experience in remodeling my house which involved moving and adding outlets. Setting your boat up for shore power isn't a lot different. It's not that difficult or complex, but you need to be very careful and not cut corners. I'd suggest that you get a more experienced friend to help you out. Some key points:1. Don't skimp on hardware, particularly the shore power connector. 2. Use the proper wire guage. Make sure it's marine wire.3. Use GFI outlets.4. Make double sure that your polarity is correct.
