The Marinco shore power cable has become gummy/sticky and now leaves black marks on the deck. I washed it with degreaser but no improvement. Not sure I should use mineral spirits or other solvent. Maybe just old...any suggestions other than buying new?

try kleen strip paint brush cleaner on it it does wonders on bumpers and fenders...you can get it at the ace hardware store about 9 dollars or so for a qt...make sure you have it unplugged when cleaning it

seems important enough, replace it...the insulation (outer jacket) is failing. You can add a sunbrella cover to the next for added protection from UV

Just spray it with a fresh coat of vinyl paint. Buy the spray can stuff for vinyls and fabric not just vinyl paint. Will work and look like new! Chief

Jim,

Everything dies, people, animals, insects & shore-power chords. Apex was right in time to change, both weather, salt air & U/V breaks down any petroleum based product over time.

I have a new chord to replace mine & will do so when I find a less fortunate skipper that needs one in better shape than what he has now.

After reading about the antiquated shore power connector standard over on MainSail's forum, I would use this as an omen to replace everything with a Smart Plug. http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=159471

Why spend money on something that is inherently unsafe and failing at the same time? If you keep your boat at a slip plugged in unattended, this upgrade should be at the top of your list.

Thanks, all, for suggestions! Lots of options. Had not considered the recommendation in the lengthy link regarding replacement and upgrade.
