shopping for a hunter 356 or 36 why would you recommend one over the other?

Any bites on Jim Seaman's boat as yet or is anyone interested as it is for sale.
My First Mate and I would love to have it. But my daddy always said if you can't afford you can't have it. Looks like a GREAT boat.

I think Jim's boat would be great for anyone looking for a roomy well cared for vessel. Jim has done some nice modifications to improve cruising comfort. A good boat for coastal or Bahamas cruising. We live aboard ours for about 5 months each year very comfortably, enough room for another couple or kids to visit.

Thank you all for this great information. A lot to take in. Still shopping. I was disappointed to see the plastic wood on the 36, per a broker, that started in 2007, . Do you all find this true? I'm a real wood person because it's repairable, and if cared for rich and beautiful. I will start a separate post on this, so give me your thoughts. Thanks ALL!

The cabin sole in the '08 36 is the faux teak laminate, which I find I like better now as it's one less thing to maintain, always looks good and relatively bullet proof. I refinished the cabin sole in our '91 h30 and it was a lot of was work to do properly. The trim is real wood but I think the panels are veneered plywood. I bought the touch up pen and filler from SBO here. Also the wood is finished like furniture so no oiling required.

I just wish it looked real. I can spot the best fake wood in anyone's floors. It is a curse!

Also, I think I could handle the floor, you often put rugs in. It's the side walls with the plastic plugs that makes me go Eweee. PD

... then you will be saying "ewee" a lot if you look at any 36 probably, because they are all over our '08. Thanks....

I bought replacement plugs on SBO. The good thing is that access to the screw head without tearing up the bung plug allows access to what's behind for inspection and maintenance. You can get to the jibe track cleats and stanchions without too much effort. While I liked the traditional teak woodwork in our '91 h30, the PO liked to oil it apparently and left thin stains of dried teak oil on the interior fiberglass, laminate, and hull liner. It's not visible till really dry and by then nothing I found can really take it off. I used Scott's liquid gold to keep from darkening the teak any more than it was. I just wipe with pledge now. I really like the lighter cherry (?) hunter used in our boat. Seems brighter inside.

Anyone looking at a good clean boat with a lot on board, check out Jim Seaman's Hunter 356 as there are many upgrades to include extras which was meticulously maintained more than most. His boat is listed on this sales site. Not much difference between the 356 and 36. Call him.
