I have bronze bell from my first boat. This was purchased in the 70's. I just don't see new bells like this any more. The tone on it is wonderful.

I used it for some garden art for many years. As a result, the screw and link the clapper mounts to went missing.

I contacted Port Townsend Foundry and purchased the needed screw/link, an acorn nut, and a roundel to finished.

I needed a place to mount the bell on a modern production sloop. Here is what I came up with.

Nice work Dave! I have a strong affection for ships bells. When I retired from the US Army in 1977 while serving in S. Korea my Electronic Maint. Shop personnel presented me with an engraved bell. The bell rode my first decent sized sailboat which was a completely restored 26' Clipper Marine. I owned her for many years and should never have sold her. My bell will hang on the solar panel array on my new vessel, a Catalina 250. She has been completely refurbished and should hit the sea this week!

I like that idea Benny. I'm not sure where I would take the bell for a good quality engraving. Any suggestions? Maybe a chemical etching process?

In my town I take items for engraving to a trophy shop. That sounds like a nice idea for my bell as well. Chief

That looks sweet - makes me want to get to mounting the old brass bell that came with our wreck.

BTW:

We tried to get into Lake Pepin last week to spend a 10-12 days exploring. Sadley upon arrival we could find no place to put in safely and to park the truck and trailer. We knew the river was at flood stage but thought we could find a way in anyway - wrong. Tried both Pepin and a place called "Deer Creek" I believe. We were sadly mistaken but we met a very helpful local that let us park our rig in his driveway overnight and we had a fine night socializing with him.

The next morning we headed for Lake Winnebago and spent 10 fine days on that body.

Lake Pepin looks awesome - we will try again next year.

There are three marinas on Lake Pepin: On the MN side, Lake City Marina, and Hanson's Harbor. On the WI side, Pepin Marina. Each has a steep ramp and a hoist for boats up to 40'. They all charge a small ramp fee (under $10) and have ample free parking for truck and trailer.

The water is going down. I'm surprised you had troubles finding a place to launch.

On the WI side the ample free parking was well under the waves.

We didn't dare cross a state line (what if they don't eat cheese?? shudder).
