Good morning all,
...and another project I didn't want....My shifter cable snapped and I'm having a bear of a time trying to follow the Edson instructions on removing all of the steering guts to get at the retaining clip down the pedestal. I will get there!
However, I would like to order a new cable but there are no markings on the cable, where I can see on those areas still visible (cable still in its run through the boat). So, I am hoping someone will know which cable I need. I have a 1997 Cat30 MKIII, with a Universal 25XPA. Thanks all

If the cable exits thru a hole in the bottom of the pedestal, there is a trick trying to navigate the cable thru the hole. First remove all the fittings to include runner/nephrene covers. Next find a small tubing that the new cable can go thru that will go thru the tubing and when cable is thru the hole, remove the tubing.

On front of the pedestal is a nut holding a white plastic piece inside. Take it off and it will be easier to remove the long cotter pin in the white plastic. Once removed you can take off the old cable and start replacing with a new cable. Suggest a long pair of needle nose pliers as one of the tools. Measure the old cable and order from Dave Groshong.

On my 2000 340, I replaced my Throttle and Transmission Cables.
Like yours the cable was visible in some areas and hidden in others and there were no markings on my old cables to identify them either.
I cut open open the zip ties holding the black wire harness, where I could, to follow the cables from the Pedestal to the Engine and Transmission. They just love zip ties in the boat industry!
You do have to remove the old first to be accurate. Or at least expose them to measure them.
To much cable will cause throttle slipping due to the cable flexing and moving each time you move the throttle handle. And a cable break will not adjust for it.

Removed, mine measured out to be 17' 7" (throttle) and 17' 9" (transmission).
I used Teleflex Xtreme CCX 633 cable to replace both - 18 feet for both.
Like mentioned above, contact Dave Groshong, for the replacement. You won't go wrong.
