I have a 1978 H-27 with a tiller with the shift controls on the cockpit wall. The shift handle sheared off this weekend partly due to the pressure needed to shift (bad cable) and a sudden swell. Well I need to remove the stub of the shift handle shaft from the mechanism. The shift shaft does not screw into the mechanism.. It looks like it goes into the mechanism and is held in place with a set screw of some tyoe. Any idea how it comes apart ? It looks like you have to remove the throttle handle first. When you take the cover off there is a square brass block on a splined shaft which the throttle handle goes into. The shaft goes through the cockpit wall. Inside the bench is the mechanizm for the cable ends.It looks like the throttle has to come off first in order to get at the shift block. Is there an allen key holding the throttle block onto the splined shaft ? It then looks like there is a set screw holding the throttle shaft in place. I don't need to take the throttle shaft off, but is the shift shaft mounted in the same way? Is there an alternative to removing the blocks? If I loosen the four mounting screws from the inside of the bench can you get at the set screws for the shift shaft ? Any help out there would be a big help. Thanks
