I'm Attempting to replace the shift cable in the pedistal post of a 1979 Hunter 30. The pedestal is a Yachting Specialties, which is no longer in production. The cables are obviously clamped inside the post and there are no bolts or screws on the post to release the tension on the clamp. Has anyone had any experience and or advice as to how to proceed, hopefully without completely dismantling the pedestal. I've read everything in the archives but nothing there addresses this specific problem.

Ours has a screw!

Phil: Our Merriman Y/S pedestal has a screw, it is about half way down, but I cannot remember which side of the pedestal it is. My friends Hunter 30' does NOT have a Y/S pedestal, it is a Edson unit with the shift lever on the aft side between the wheel and the pedestal itself. And I have no idea how you would loosen the cables in that one.
